If you are looking for a quick method for downloading vm-support files when working with VMware support, then with ESXi 5 there is a new way to do this you may not be aware of. If you can access the host using a web browser, then you can also use the browser to generate and download the support files. You do this by browsing to: https://hostname/cgi-bin/vm-support.cgi
Once loaded, following authentication, you are presented with a familiar File Download dialog box:
Easy, eh?
